I’ve opted into the new Medium profile, and I am surprised at how little it offers. I can choose fonts for various elements of posts, background and highlight colors, and that’s about it.
But a lot of things are gone. I can no longer see who is following me, just the number of followers. I can’t see who I am following, either. Likewise, my responses aren’t showing on my profile page: perhaps they are being treated more like comments on conventional blog platforms, and are just associated with the posts responded to. Same with claps. And no navigation elements except an About. I’ve also realized that the ‘friend link’ seems to have disappeared, and I wonder what that means for readers without Medium accounts.
But it’s a start.
I’m hoping for a great deal more. I am willing to believe they cut back a bunch of things to make room for a new vision, where a personal profile will be more like a publication. For example, there might be a better way to present information like followers and responses. We’ll have to see. Fingers crossed.
